I WOULD like to thank the chief planning officer for her advice to the planning committee and congratulate the committee on their unanimous decision to reject the application by 3H Investments to develop land to the north east of Butcher Park Hill, Tavistock.
I would also be grateful if through your paper you could draw your readers' attention to the fact that the term 'caravans', as used in the application and your headline in last week's edition, is defined in planning legislation and the Caravans Act of 1960 as 'buildings which are delivered to site in two halves and then bolted together', rather than 'a dwelling place on wheels' as defined in the OED and recognised by most people.
What the developer has in reality proposed are 52 (semi)permanent timber clad 1–4 bedroomed luxury lodges complete with timber-decked verandas.
Let us hope that should 3H Investments go to appeal, the planning inspector will take the same view as the planning committee and the very large number of residents who have already objected to the scheme.
