WITH their opponents having been relegated from the league above last season and North Tawton not beaten them for a long time this match was also likely to be close - and close it was.
Early on Jo Farmer at scrum half for Tawton provided a good ball for Amy Cooper to break through the Cullompton defence to touch down under the posts. The try was duly converted by Jo Farmer.
A drive followed by a good scrum from the home side saw Clare Hooper break from number eight to score a try; a move that she was equally successful in doing for another try in the second half.
After the break Tawton were on the back foot after Cullompton breached their defence three times.
However, good tackling from Helen Ashcroft and Wiz Francis gave Tawton a good platform — they were rewarded when Lucy Cleave scored a try with two minutes remaining. Tawton earned a penalty in front of the posts and this was dispatched to clinch the winning points.
This was a good win for North Tawton, who thank their sponsor Waitrose for providing the side's kit this season.
