South Molton II 5

ON a sunny autumn day, ideal for rugby, North Tawton fielded a much changed side in this friendly fixture.

North Tawton took a long time to settle and it was the visitors who had the upper hand in the opening encounter. It was no surprise when South Molton broke away with a good run from their scrum-half which ended in a late tackle and a penalty try they failed to convert.

A Joe Fewings penalty on the stroke of half-time put North Tawton back into the match.

After the break North Tawton began to pressurise the South Molton line with a succession of forward drives. From one of these North Tawton spun the ball wide to allow winger Adrian Pearce to cross in the corner for an unconverted try.

North Tawton continued the pressure up front and were coming good after a mixed start. They scored the best try of the match when the ball was released wide for full back Ross Laurence to come into the line and cross in the corner for an unconverted try.

North Tawton continued their pressure and a maul five yards out was finally released to scrum half Martin Friggins. He passed to Danny North who crashed over for a try in the corner, converted by Joe Fewings.

North Tawton, ably led by vice-captain Martin Horn, did everything by example and ran out worthy winners.

l North Tawton are away this weekend to Prince Rock in their first league game of the season.
