AS if coping with your first child isn't enough work, Jodine Boothby from Calstock has managed to design and develop a new baby teething product that is now in production and her son has only just had his first birthday.
Jodine came up with the idea for the Gummee Glove after trying to help her little boy, Jimmy, when he started teething.
She said: 'Jimmy started teething when he was three months old, he was too young to hold the usual rings so I looked for a teething mitt that could be secured to his hand but there was nothing out there.
'I paid for a global patent and product search and still nothing, so I drew up my own design. I had no idea how to use computer design packages, so I drew it by hand.'
Two major national retailers are currently in talks with Jodine and three online companies are already stocking and selling the glove. She's blown away by the response she's had.
Jodine said: 'I can't believe this has all only taken seven months to get from my amateurish sketch of the initial idea to full production with retail and wholesale orders.
'I am plagued with dreams of Gummee Gloves — I sometimes feel like it's not really happening! I emailed one retailer a link to my Facebook page. I've heard you can be lucky to get a response or even a "no", but within days I got an answer, saying they were interested in selling the Gummee Glove online, internationally.'
Her first production run of a thousand mitts is selling well, including sales in America. Now Jodine is finalising the design of the packaging. The whole process has been funded by her own and husband Stephen's savings.
Jodine added: 'Life is a whirlwind right now and I feel very proud of what I have achieved'.
