RESULTS in the league for the Tavistock Tennis Club were somewhat mixed last week but the men's A team had two resounding wins.

It was unfortunate that for the second week running the Juniors B team had to claim a w/o, this time against Hill Lane A which is usually a good match, who could not field a team.

Results:

Seniors Men's A- team won 8 - 0 at home against Mannamead B. Tavistock pairs: Bernard Mowle/Simon Thomas and John Reeder/ Andrew Lyle-Carter.

B- team won 8 - 0 away to Saltash. Tavistock pairs: Phil Harbottle/Ray Hinton and Alan Bruce/Terry Rose.

C- team lost 4 - 5 away to Plympton which was a close match hinging on one set.

Tavistock pairs: Jonathan Stephens and Oliver Beilby 4-1 sets. David Isaac and Bill Sparks 0-4 sets.

It was unfortunate that Jonathan forgot his tennis shoes and a spare pair could not be found in time for the match start. He gallantly played in his socks for a while and continued in bare feet when the socks were worn through. It is noteworthy that with Oliver he won both his individual matches.

D- team lost 1 - 8 at home against Hill Lane B. Martin Hix and Rod Watson 1-4 sets. Steve Fletcher and Mike Prout 0-4 sets.

Ladies- A team lost 3 - 6 away to Mannamead B. Di Kersey and Tric Locker 1-4 sets. Olga Rogers and Nikki Hoar 2-2 sets the 2 sets won by Tavistock being by default due to an injury to a Mannamead player.

The B and C teams, who are both in Division 4, came up against each other which was very much an in-house match and is recorded as an 8 - 0 win by the B- team. In fact, the actual played result was 6 - 3 to the B- team and a good match but due to an abstruse league rule on eligibility for one player, the C- team had to forfeit the 3 sets won. Juniors: A- team won 7 - 3 away to Saltash A in a match played in very difficult windy conditions requiring considerable control by the players.

B- team away to Hill Lane A. W/o to Tavistock as Hill Lane unable to raise a team.

C- team - no planned match.

D- team lost 2 - 6 at home against Ivybridge who are a strong team. Sara Whyman v their 1st player; 7-6, 6-1. Joanne Salmon and Anna Maunder v their 1st pair; 1-6, 3-6. Joanne v their 2nd player; 1-6, 0-6. Sara and Anna v their 2nd pair; 2-6, 2-6.
