PARKING on any of the land in the Meadows is prohibited, a meeting in Tavistock was last week told.

Members of the town council's properties committee heard that cars were often seen parked within the Meadows boundaries, by the tennis club.

Cllr Mandy Govier said: 'There are often quite a few cars down there — do they have permission?

'I think this needs to be investigated.'

Cllr Govier said the bowling club was situated next door to the tennis club, and both clubs should be abiding by the same bye-laws.

Cllr Philip Sanders said: 'I don't see any reason why anyone should park in the Meadows unless there were very special circumstances, if they were disabled or something.'

Town clerk Roger Howard told the committee that although unloading and loading was permitted at the tennis club, using the double gates for access, nobody had permission to actually park and leave their cars in the Meadows.

The committee agreed a letter should be sent to the tennis club, to remind its members of the Meadows bye-laws.
