Elmore 2
Hatherleigh Town 5
FOR the first time this season Hatherleigh had the luxury of a full squad available for this difficult league match. Neil Vernon, their latest signing, who joined from Okehampton last week, was also available for selection.
'Neil is our third signing of the season so far,' said manager Jon Hayman — 'This is extremely positive for us as it is always difficult to convince players to move away from their home clubs.'
Elmore took the game to Hatherleigh in the opening exchanges and scored within ten minutes. However, captain Stuart Dymond equalised within a minute, volleying home from ten yards a pinpoint cross by Simon Pearson.
The away side grew in confidence, penetrating through-balls from the midfield continually caused the Elmore defence problems. Both S White and S James broke through the defence and Hatherleigh took a 3-1 lead.
Elmore rallied and, from a set-piece, pulled one back, finished by a volley at the back post. They continually probed at the defence, creating chance after chance.
A blow to keeper Hayman's head required lengthy treatment, and this gave Hatherleigh time to reorganise and compose themselves, ensuring they kept their lead through to half-time.
Vernon entered the game after half-time and had an excellent 45 minutes, providing pace and width on the right hand side. The defence of Ward, Cleave, Adams and Pearson looked solid and in control throughout and the Elmore strikers had to work hard for their half chances.
James increased the lead after 20 minutes, decisively finishing at the after post.
Dymond then finished the game off with a delightful chip over the keeper from just inside the penalty area.
Hatherleigh have another away league match this week at Cullompton.
