Okehampton Mixed Youth 7 Chudleigh 1 OKEHAMPTON mixed youth hockey team played Chudleigh on Sunday, determined to avenge their defeat from earlier in the season. Okehampton were quickly into their stride and using the full width of the pitch they attacked the Chudleigh goal in style. Josh Speak in particular ran well with the ball, but it was Hannah Whiteley, playing in her first mixed game, who opened the scoring for Okehampton. Town continued to dominate the game, and attacking the Chudleigh goal they were rewarded with a short corner, which Abi Colton duly converted with a well taken shot. Chudleigh put these setbacks behind them, and worked hard to get back into the game, and they too played stylish hockey. Oke's reply was a quick clearance which Tom Forrester collected deep in the Chudleigh half. He showed great ball control and skill to round the Chudleigh keeper and push the ball into the empty net. Josh Speak and Grace Thorpe added further goals before half-time. Chudleigh's half time team talk must have been inspirational, as they came out a much more determined side and put Okehampton on the defensive from the start. Okehampton keeper Jamie Paveley made two crucial saves before he was beaten by a crisp shot through the crowded circle. Unperturbed Okehampton pushed forward again and Tom Forrester scored two more goals before the final whistle went rounding off an excellent team performance. Amanda Sim, who unselfishly joined the Chudleigh team to even up the numbers, had an outstanding game in the Chudleigh defence. Team: Jamie Pavely, Jennie Humphrey, Martin Jones, Abi Colton, Sarah Jones, Stuart MacCormack, Joff Stephens, Josh Speak, Luke Miller, Grace Thorp, Tom Forrester, Hannah Whiteley, Amanda Sim.
