Channings Wood 4 Chagford 0 THE visitors were given a straight forward footballing lesson by their second division opponents, although they did improve in the second half. With the early wind at their backs, Chagford looked lively but were caught too often dwelling on the ball or over-hitting passes. The home side were sharper, quicker to the ball and more physical across most areas of the park. Most of Chagford?s play came down their right flank through Andrew Davis and whoever was ahead of him. Channings Wood scored twice in five minutes, to give themselves a great boost. The first a cracking drive, the second a gift. Chris Woof for Chagford in goal was to redeem himself later in the half by turning a fierce shot onto the bar and over. Chagford?s best chances came and went through hesitant finishing and over passing. The second half was more promising for Chagford but again they lacked firepower. Half-time sub, Steve Tolen. worked more openings with some sensible forward play but lacked support at times. Two more goals did for Chagford as legs began to tire in the heat but flattered Channings Wood somewhat. One big plus for the visitors was the link-up play of Warwick Botham and Christian Crowther-Smith down the left flank. Mark Williams earned himself plaudits with his tireless efforts and the way he led by example. Channings Wood should be looking at a successful season, if they continue in this vein. With a heavy weekend of matches this week, Chagford will need to lift themselves as they surely can.
