A WOMAN from Hatherleigh is off next month to Africa to volunteer her services as a physiotherapist and she is asking people to come along to a special fundraising evening tonight (Thursday) to help her on her way. Gemma Collier, 21, who has just graduated from Brunel University, West London, is heading for Kampala in Uganda on November 16 to work in International Hospital. She said: ?I wanted to do something a little different and also enhance my employment prospects for a job when I come back to this country. ?I am raising funds to help finance the trip including covering the cost of my licence and insurance to practice physiotherapy in Uganda. I will be working in a range of in-patient and out-patient departments for a period of six months.? Gemma has organised a fundraising evening at the Old Schools room in Hatherleigh tonight between 6.30pm to 9pm and is inviting people will come along to support her.There will be teas, coffees, refreshments, cake stalls, tombola, a raffle, bric a brac, guess the name of the big pig, and a kids? colouring competition.
