TWO women from Tavistock will be proudly displaying their bras as they walk 26.2 miles around London this spring, to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
Teresa Allison and Sharon Palmer will be taking part in the Moonwalk in May, joining thousands of others to walk a marathon distance around the streets of London overnight wearing decorated bras.
The Moonwalk is in its 15th year and aims to support and encourage women and men — who can also get breast cancer — to take regular exercise and have a healthy diet, as well as raising money for breast cancer causes.
Over the last 14 years the Moonwalk has raised more than £75-million.
Teresa Allison said: 'One in eight women in the UK is expected to be diagnosed with some form of breast cancer — I was one of those.
'I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2009 and I had two operations before Christmas that year. I had six months of chemotherapy and three weeks of radiotherapy.
'Along with my work colleague Sharon, we have decided to take part in this year's Moonwalk to help raise vital money for the causes it supports.
'Sharon has supported me through the bad times with the tears and the good times with lots of laughter.
'We are now trudging the streets around our homes in training, hoping to make the 26 miles we will do easier.
'I would like to thank Denise for being there and holding my hand through those horrible hours in hospital — she made it so much more bearable.
'Of course there are too many friends to mention by name whose thoughts were with me and those that were always on the end of the phone if needed, but especially my partner John who went through every step with me in private and public.'
Teresa and Sharon will be doing the Moonwalk on May 12, and are hoping to raise as much money as possible.
