Hatherleigh v Topsham
NEWLY promoted Hatherleigh Ladies won their first game in the Devon Women's League Division 1 against Topsham mainly due to an outstanding all round performance from Clara Nielson, who took four for twelve off seven overs and then scored 65 not out.
Topsham batted first and were given a good start by Kate Granger and Jenny Thorne who put on 85 for the second wicket. However, once they were parted Hatherleigh made steady progress in taking wickets and slowing the run rate. Clara Nielson (4 for 12) was backed up by Gemma Anstey (2 for 5) and Mel Balsdon (2 for 22), and Topsham's innings closed after on 140 for 9 after 35 overs.
Hatherleigh's openers started very positively. After Frances Lausen was out for a quick fire 20, Clara Nielson (65 not out) and Catherine Williams (26 not out) put on 110 without being parted to give Hatherleigh a nine wicket win with seven overs to spare.
Topsham 140 — 9 (Kate Granger 45, Jenny Thorne 37, Clara Nielson 4 for 12) lost to Hatherleigh 144 — 1 (Clara Nielson 65 not out) by 9 wickets.
