A NEW borough councillor was elected in Tavistock last Thursday — the daughter of the borough's current mayor.
Kirstie Clish-Green, Liberal Democrat, was elected for the Tavistock South ward. Miss Clish-Green polled 523 votes with Conservative Party candidate Susan Bailey receiving 450 votes and Brian Trew, Independent, receiving 170 votes.
The seat was held previously by Chris Jenkins of the Conservatives who resigned for personal reasons in October.
Kirstie, who was born and brought up in Tavistock, thanked everyone who had supported her in her campaign.
She said: ' I am thrilled to be able to represent people in Tavistock. I will always listen to them and do my best to keep Tavistock the vibrant, cultural centre that it is.'
The turnout for the election was 33.92%. The council now has 12 Conservatives, nine Independents, eight Liberal Democrats and two ungrouped members.
