A CEREMONY to mark the unveiling of a new Standard for the Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion will be held next week. The official dedication service will be held at All Saints Parish Church in Okehampton and attended by members of Devon County Committee and representatives of neighbouring branches as well as civic dignitaries. The Rev Mark Thomas will officiate at the service next Monday, October 9, from 7pm. The Service of Dedication will also feature the laying up of the old Standard. The ceremony will be under the watchful eye of the Devon County Parade Marshal Bob Nelson, while the young Branch Standard Bearer James Stacey will have the honour of carrying the new Standard. Bugler Andrew Collier, a member of Okehampton Community College Band, will play the ?Last Post? and ?Reveille? while Okehampton youngster Joe Stacey will also participate in the ceremony. In addition to members of the Royal British Legion, it is hoped that many Okehampton townsfolk will also be present to witness this prestigious occasion. The service will be followed by an official reception in the Royal British Legion Social Club for all branch members and invited guests. Branch Standard Bearer James Stacey will be carrying the new Standard when he competes in the county standard bearers? competition on October 21, in Honiton. The new Standard will be paraded in Okehampton on Remembrance Sunday on November 12. The branch has recently won the Haig Cup, the prestigious national award for the most efficient branch in the UK.
