RESIDENTS of Westbridge cottages in Tavistock have been thanked for their campaign to get a new bus shelter by their local county councillor.

Cllr Debo Sellis, who is also a member of Tavistock Town Council, said if it was not for residents asking questions and gathering support, it would not have happened.

The residents put together a petition of approximately 50 signatures and got the support of Cllr Sellis.

Devon County Council then agreed to construct a new shelter outside the cottages, on Plymouth Road. It will match the existing blue shelter on the opposite side of the road, which was installed by the town council.

Cllr Sellis told members of the town council's properties committee: 'It just shows that if you want something and you go through the right procedures, sometimes it works.'

The town council will take over responsibility for the upkeep of the shelter as it has done in the past with county council erected shelters.
