THE season is now well under way at Tavistock Golf Club, with the new club captain, Peter Masoli, having his drive-in competition on May 8.
In blustery conditions the event was won by G Stokes and R Hylands with 45 points; second being Rob McLintock and Andy Priddle, 41 points; third on a countback over the back three holes, Tony Cooper and Mike Wakley.
The winning ladies? team was Mrs Peggy Burge and Mrs Bridget Luckham.
The best mixed pair was the vice-captain Graham Dennis and lady vice-captain, Mrs Janet Walls.
The winner of the lollipop stick to guess where the captain?s drive finished was Nicholas Coe.
The Palairet team were unlucky to lose to Staddon Heights at Thurlestone with two matches going extra holes.
Greater success was enjoyed by the team of Graham Ruth, Alan Gawman and Duncan File who qualified for the English Team Championship at Sandwell Park in the West Midlands in September at the recent county championships at Yelverton.
The Plymouth Sound teams under the captaincy of Mike Apps are undefeated after two games against Wrangaton and Elfordleigh, both matches being drawn at home.
Other recent winners have been the shotgun foursomes on April 4, Dave Burge and Garry Davies, the April stableford, Adam Waddle; the adult junior foursomes, George Gawman and Chris Gawman ? Chris followed up the next day winning the George Kitley stableford with an excellent score of 50 points.
Mr and Mrs Mike Samborne won the mixed greensome held on Easter Monday with 41 points. Rod Hillman won the May medal with a net 64 and T Caulfield won the Alfa romeo shield with a nett 65. Sam Turner won the Kelly Bowl. The stableford on May 16 was won by Ewan McCall with 47 points.
l The ladies stableford competition took place on May 4. Winner of Div 1 was Nicky Gawman, 40 points and runner-up Kerry Gawman, 38 points. Div 2 winner Joan Newland 36 points, and runner-up Sally Hills 35 points.
On Friday, May 7, the Sheelah Creasy team beat Honiton 5-2 at home.
