A SOUTH West bus company is providing an added service between Tavistock and Callington Community College during term times. First is introducing the new service — Service 79 — connecting Tavistock and Callington College with one return journey each day on school days following a number of requests from the public. A spokesperson for First said: 'The former 79 service was operated by DAC Coaches, which went out of business. For a short period, Plymouth Citybus and Western Greyhound operated a combined emergency contract for Cornwall Council covering the 79 and other services. 'In Cornwall Council's major re-tendering of all contracted bus services in June, Western Greyhound won the substantive contract to operate the 79, which it renumbered 579 to match the numbering sequence of its services. 'However, the contracted service has insufficient capacity to meet the demand for students from Tavistock and en-route to Callington College, so First is providing commercially one return journey each way at college times to cater for this demand. The journey route will be numbered 79.' The service 76 is also being revised to provide faster journeys between Callington and Plymouth. Most peak journeys will continue to serve Ashton and St Dominick with some continuing to serve the Burraton Industrial Estate. The service changes will come into effect from September 7. First has said that timetables for the routes will be available on its website two weeks before they change.
