CALLINGTON'S new police community support officer is 27-year-old Joanne Addems from Torpoint. Joanne will have responsibility for the Gunnislake and Calstock area. Joanne worked in retail for nine years before deciding for a complete change in career. She joined the station last week after nine weeks of training at police headquarters at Middlemoor. 'I have always wanted to work for the police since I was little and thought it was time I did something about it,' she said. 'I had to choose between joining the police or becoming a police community support officer and it was the community thing that made me decide on this job. I am so used to talking to the general public from working in retail I thought it was better to do this.' Joanne said she was looking forward to carrying on the good work of PCSO Garcia, and tackling youth issues and anti-social behaviour: 'The new park at Woodland Way in Gunnislake which PCSO Garcia was involved with is fantastic and I would like to see more things like that to give young people something to do.'
