NHS bosses have welcomed the appointment of Dr David Radford as chairman of the forthcoming Devon Primary Care Trust (PCT). Dr Radford will take up his position in the new organisation, which will oversee healthcare in the county, when it comes into force in October. The existing six PCTs in the greater Devon area will become one when the new countywide organisation is created on October 1. Mary Nisbett, who chairs the interim Devon NHS PCT board, said Dr Radford?s appointment was good news for the West Country. ?I would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr Radford on behalf of the board,? she said. ?He brings a wealth of experience to the role and we look forward to working together to build on the excellent work that is already taking place in hospitals, health centres and GP surgeries throughout Devon.? The new Devon PCT will commission secondary care services from local NHS trusts and other health services suppliers. It will also be responsible for the delivery of primary and community care and will play a vital role in developing practice-based commissioning ? giving GPs and their teams greater responsibility for commissioning services. The appointment of remaining members to the new PCT board will take place over the next few months.
