A NEW chairman has been elected for Tavistock and District Chamber of Commerce.
At the recent annual meeting Lawsons manager David Scrivener took over from Philip Hartnell who has served more than two years at the helm.
Mr Scrivener applauded work done by the outgoing chairman and voiced his intention to continue in the same vein.
?I am very excited about this opportunity to help promote Tavistock in the widest way possible,? he said.
He recognised the importance of the chamber in the local community.
?Chamber performs an invaluable service to the business community of Tavistock,? he said.
?It helps promote the town to outside visitors, not only through the ?A Great Day Out in Tavistock? leaflet but also through organising the summer floral festival, the Dickensian evening and the Christmas lights.?
Mr Scrivener said: ?The chamber keeps itself at the forefront of what is happening in Tavistock to make sure that the interests of the business people are best represented?.
Determined to continue improving the service the chamber provides to local business people he made an earnest appeal for local businesspeople to come forward and join the chamber.
?I want to boost Tavistock businesses as much as possible so extra thoughts and ideas are always welcome,? he said.
Anyone interested can contact David Scrivener on 01822 610200 or chamber secretary Guy Talbot on 613355.
The next chamber meeting will be at 7.30pm on March 1 at The Bedford Hotel.
It will be an open meeting for all Tavistock businesspeople.
