A LEAFLET promoting rail travel on the beautiful Tamar Valley Line has been given a make-over by a local artist. Ian Pethers, who is based at Glenrock Studios in Gunnislake, has updated the leaflet which gives residents and locals an introduction to the branch line, the villages through which it passes and aims to encourage people to use it to explore the valley. Ian (pictured right), whose work portrays the countryside of East Cornwall and who has become well known for producing welcome panels at railway stations, is an associate of the Royal Institute of Miniature Painters. His studio overlooks Gunnislake Station. Stephanie Green, of the Rail Partnership, said: ?Promotional materials need a facelift every now and then, and what better way to promote a local line than to get a local artist involved? ?Ian has worked with the partnership on many occasions and his work is always fantastic.? The Tamar Valley line, which opened in 1908, owes its existence to the flourishing market garden industry in the valley during the early 20th century. It is acknowledged as being one of England?s most scenic rail journeys, passing through a largely undiscovered area of outstanding natural beauty.
