WEST Devon-based furniture retailer Fairway Furniture has confirmed its long-term commitment to Tavistock by announcing an extensive refurbishment of its store in the town.
The store was the first Fairway Furniture store to be opened, back in 1976. The premises on Plymouth Road were formerly a car showroom and garage.
Since then the company has grown to be recognised throughout the South West as a leading independent furniture retailer.
The refurbishment programme includes a new glass atrium entrance with much improved disabled access, together with extensive external work to modernise the building.
Managing director Peter Harding said: 'At a time when there is a great deal of coverage in the media about economic gloom and store closures, we're delighted to be able to demonstrate our commitment to providing the people of Tavistock with local choice from an independent, family owned company.'
The store will remain open during refurbishment, with work expected to be completed by early July.
