A SCHEME to provide quality affordable furniture for people on low incomes has taken a step further.

A WestDEN feasibility study has been completed and a business plan is being set up, with the help of a £1,300 grant from fuel giant Shell.

Jane Savage of WestDEN's Waste Not, Want Not project, said: 'there are many similar schemes around the country but non exist so far in this area.

'The idea is for the project to take donations of surplus furniture and household appliances, in good condition, and offer them to those in need.'

Mrs Savage said the 'new lease of life' given to these items will conserve raw materials and at the same time, preserve valuable space in landfill sites.

The steering committee for the project is made up of representatives from the Citizen's Advice Bureau, the CVS and West Devon Homes in addition to WestDEN.
