THIS week saw new opening hours for vital voluntary services come into effect in Okehampton and Tavistock. West Devon Community and Voluntary Services, as well as as its Volunteer Centres, changed their opening hours on April 1. The offices at 5, King Street, Tavistock and the Carlton Centre, St James Street, Okehampton are both now open from 10am until 2pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The trustees of the charity have regretfully taken the decision after considering the level of funding available to the organisation over the coming year. Chief executive, Karen Nolan, said: 'Core funding from Devon County Council, Devon Primary Care Trust and West Devon Borough Council is not sufficient to maintain previous opening hours. 'Although this clearly will have an impact on the availability of services, the CVS believes it can continue to provide a viable service to the many voluntary and community groups across West Devon and to those wishing to volunteer. 'Naturally, the CVS will continue to seek funding from other sources.' If any organisations feel they can offer help, the CVS in Okehampton can be contacted on 01837 53392 or in Tavistock on 01822 618230.
