A NEW village hall for Bridestowe has been granted outline planning permission.
West Devon planners on Tuesday approved the proposal for the site of the existing hall.
A second application to locate the structure on the playing field of Bridestowe Primary School was withdrawn by Bridestowe Village Hall Management Committee.
Representing the management committee, David Porter said the existing hall was at the end of its useful life and a rebuild would continue the use of a facility which had served three generations.
The proposal received eight letters of support and four against. The general concerns were noise to neighbouring residents and lack of parking.
A condition was added to the planning permission to control noise and Mr Porter said most people who used the hall walked to the premises.
Chairman of Bridestowe School governors, Phil Down, said there was not enough positive reaction to a joint venture between the hall committee and the school and therefore the offer of the school site had been withdrawn.
