A NEW grant funding initiative to assist voluntary groups that support adults with a learning disability has been launched by Devon Carers.

The new grant is available for social groups run by volunteers that benefit adults with learning disabilities.

Learning Disabilities development worker, Jackie Milan, said: 'More than 2,700 adults in Devon have a learning disability, and their carers are often under real pressure.

'Voluntary groups enable carers to have a break from their caring responsibilities.

'There are already a wide range of organisations across south and west Devon — from Tavistock to Teignmouth who are doing excellent work, and this funding recognises what they do to support carers and those they care for.

'We also want to help groups we don't know about and help set up new organisations across Devon.

'It's important that Tavistock carers don't miss out on this opportunity. If you know of any such groups please pass their contact details to me as soon as possible and I'll send out an application form.'
