Plymouth Argaum Thirds 0

ALTHOUGH a dry day, the back pitch had soaked up previous rain and soon turned into a mire. These conditions should have prevented running play and favoured forward drives.

Okehampton, with a few new faces in the pack, looked at spinning the ball away from the experienced Argaum eight. This tactic worked well and Okehampton were soon in control with two or three tries in quick succession.

Playing down the slope, Okehampton turned around having scored 31 points. A hat-trick of tries for Colin Ewen being worth a mention, as was a fine performance from Gordon Crouch.

The first half was cut short by five minutes after a serious recurring knee injury to the visitors' scrum half, which necessitated the use of the ambulance service.

As expected, the second half was more contested. As the home forwards tired, Argaum made use of some good rolling mauls and forward play.

Okehampton managed to score three tries in the second period. Debutant wing Stewart Cann, on loan from the football club for six months, scored two tries in a fine performance.

Others on the scoresheet were Mike Harris who gave mobility to the back row and well deserved his try. Hayden Leigh and Perry Vallance both had a try apiece and Adam Holiday converted three.
