The NHS Smokefree campaign has launched an 'IOU' voucher book scheme to help people encourage their loved ones to kick the habit.

The book contains suggested 'IOUs' to loved ones promising special treats such as romantic nights out or pledges to tidy the house.

There is also space for friends and family to write their own personal message of support.

Greg Price, head of Devon Primary Care Trust's (PCT) NHS Stop Smoking Service, said: 'Smokers are four times more likely to quit with the help of their local NHS stop smoking services.

'Support from friends and family can also give people a real boost in their attempt to quit smoking.

'Free local NHS stop smoking services organised are also available and offer free individual and group support and advice close to people's homes.'
