A NEW darts league has got on the oche this month in West Devon and teams are now aiming to be the first to claim the first ever title of the Jail Ale League.

Sponsored by Dartmoor brewery, the makers of Jail Ale beer, there are eight teams vying for the title — Devon Tors, Leaping Salmon A, Burrator Inn, Plume of Feathers, Jo's Bar, Leaping Salmon B, Prince of Wales and Walkhampton Inn.

Mike Collings, the licensee of the Walkhampton Inn along with Alison Girvan, said: 'We haven't had a darts team for many years at the Walkhampton Inn and due to the local interest I agreed to join  the new local league.

'We had a great night but didn't get off to a great start as we lost 11-0 to the Devon Tors.

'The only way is up — as we are now bottom!'
