IF you see yourself as a budding Hank Marvin or Graham Coxon then a new course in Tavistock will strike the right note.
Devon Adult and Community Learning is creating new 'Learn Acoustic Guitar' courses to put guitar playing 'back on the map' for adults in the county.
The courses will allow adults the opportunity to learn to play the guitar.
Steve Roberts, curriculum officer said: 'These courses are aimed at adults who want to learn guitar in a group environment. This allows learners to support each other and play group pieces as well as solo pieces.
'Coming together every week really helps to raise confidence in learners who are new to guitar. Once you start learning, you never stop, and the guitar is a wonderfully versatile instrument.
'We have expert tutors whose knowledge and skill will make for an absolutely terrific experience for new learners.'
The cost of the course is £10 per two-hour session for ten weeks, making the full cost only £100 for the entire course. Learners will need their own acoustic guitar to bring to each class; the idea being that they then go off and practice on it before the next session.
The course will start with a brief look at the history of this fascinating instrument and will go on to cover tuning the guitar (EADGBE), good playing posture, basic chord major/minor shapes, strumming techniques/picking techniques, basic chord progressions, rhythm, playing a simple piece, group and individual pieces, practice/basic scales/chord practice, barre chords and more minor chords, performing a simple piece, looking after the guitar and maintenance.
These courses are available at the Alexander Centre in Tavistock, starting December 11.
Learners can enrol at devon.gov.uk/adultlearning, by calling MyDevon on 0845 155 1014, at a DevonACL centre in person (details on the website) or via post (details on website).
