TAVISTOCK Rugby Club Senior 1st XV is hoping for promotion from the Devon and Cornwall league next season with its new coach, Steve Rush. As a Tavistock man he is keen to take his local club to the next level in terms of the quality of rugby being played in Tavistock. Promotion will see Tavistock in the Western Counties league. Steve is an ex-Cornwall and Launceston first team prop forward with RFU level two coaching credentials. At the moment the clubs committee is working hard to raise funds for a floodlighting system making it the envy of most Devon rugby clubs. Last season the second XV reached the final of the Lockie cup, losing only two games all season. Veterans rugby is played by the over 35s, and the girls of the area put out two teams, under 14s and under 17s. The under 19 colts team train with the seniors and play on Saturdays. The club runs ten junior sides from ages seven to 16 training or playing on Sunday mornings. Pre-season training takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm to 8.30pm, and will initially take place in the Tavistock College grounds. For more information contact Steve Rush on 07888 746384.
