A NEWLY founded West Devon organisation is appealing for support, donations, storage space and volunteers to help it provide physical and financial support to rescue dogs across the UK.
Rescue Dogs UK, based in Tavistock, has been set up after organisers noticed there is no central body offering support, both physically and financially, to dog rescues around the UK.
The aim is to fundraise to secure a central fund that rescue centres can apply to for assistance, collect items needed by rescue centres and to educate the public on what rescue centres do and why rescue dogs should be considered when selecting a dog.
Rescue Dogs UK has had local website designers Westcountry Website Design donating their time and effort into building a website for the charity which will be going live in the near future.
The charity is appealing for bedding, old towels, blankets, dog beds, dog food, toys and treats.
In particular, there will be an ongoing appeal 'Give A Dog A Kong', which is asking people to donate Kong treat dispensing toys for those dogs in rescue kennels.
Kongs are fantastic boredom breakers and the charity is in particular looking for the dome and bone shaped ones or the Kong Wobblers.
Rescue Dogs UK is also appealing for volunteers to join the charity, in particular an accountant to join the board as a trustee and a treasurer who has experience in the set up of a charity.
Also needed are people who can collect and store items until the charity can find an office space in which to base its headquarters, and anyone interesting in fundraising.
The organisation is also looking for businesses which may wish to donate items to the Rescue Dog UK Christmas Auction which will be running from November 10 to December 1. The donations need to be items that can be posted out to winning bidders.
