CALLINGTON Town Council officially opened its toddler park in Saltash Road Recreation Park last Thursday (October 18).

Town councillors and parents who originally initiated the idea for a toddler park were in attendance.

Two years ago the town council was approached by a group of parents with suggestions about the need for some play equipment for those aged 18 months to four years. Working in partnership with the group, and following a number of meetings with them, the project was moved forward. This then coincided with an anonymous donation of £11,000 from a resident in Callington specifically for toddler play equipment. The town council applied for a grant from the Big Lottery, which was successful and the council match-funded.

The project then came to fruition and resulted in the toddler equipment being installed by Wicksteds.

Town clerk Helen Downdall said: ‘Thank you to all involved — the person who donated the initial funding; the Big Lottery for the grant; the group of parents for pursuing the project; Wicksteeds for the installation and their advice; and the outside services staff for all the work they have done.

‘By working in partnership the project is now complete and we hope that the toddlers enjoy this area.’
