CASTLE Ham Lodge have some exciting changes and additions to their range of activities groups for over 50s.

The newest group is called 'Let's Play with Fabric and Yarn'. Evolving from a sewing circle, the group will be open to everyone from complete novices to those with more needlecraft experience. Hand sewing, machine sewing, embroidery, ribbon weaving, glued appliqué, knitting, crochet, and other activities will be on offer, with help on offer from experienced volunteers.

The first meeting takes place on Thursday, June 16 at 2pm, and will take place every Thursday thereafter. Donations of fabrics, wools, and things to embellish work such as buttons and beads, are welcome.

The 'Sing-a-long' group is starting up again following the return of group leader Elaine. The fun group starts up again on Monday June 13 at 11am, and will run every Monday thereafter. Those who live in the Chagford and South Zeal areas can take advantage of the Ring and Ride bus to get to and from the sessions.

The Oke Stroke Club continue to meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, with members getting the chance to share concerns, share experiences and help each other. The meeting on Tuesday June 28 will have a representative from the Stroke Association available to talk to and provide information.

All of these sessions take place in one of the community rooms at Castle Ham Lodge, which is now an extra care housing facility run by the Guinness Trust. Each sessions costs £1 to £2 and has been started with the assistance of Time for Life and Okehampton United Charity.

Other groups include a book group, art club, and a seated exercise and games group. All are open to anyone over 50. For further information call the lodge on 01837 659900, or Ali at Time 4 Life on 01822 810897.
