THIS was always going to be a tough encounter, the home side Barnstaple were renowned for their big pack and good handling in the backs. It was Okehampton though who took the initiative from the kick off, applying pressure and causing the home side to make errors.

Okehampton were unlucky not to go over in the first ten minutes but their eagerness came with some basic errors and along with some good defensive skills from Barnstaple kept the Okehampton side from crossing the line.

The second half saw Okehampton become more dominant in the forwards but again good defence and over eagerness meant they couldn't cross the line.

The chances were there but neither side could break through.

The Okehampton side should see this as a positive step forward against a well drilled and physical opposition.

Although the game will be looked on as a scalp that should have been taken, it was on the whole a very good team performance, which was good to see.
