A WOMAN who was almost hit by two young men on motorbikes, while she was crossing the road on her mobility scooter, is urging road users to take more care.
Tavistock resident Sylvia Gilbert was crossing the road at the West Street and Russell Street junction and was about half way across when two bikers sped past her missing her by just inches.
The scene was witnessed by a member of the public who outlined the incident in a letter to the Times last week ('How an Accident Did Not Happen I Don't Know', Times November 15).
Sylvia said: 'There was no traffic when I was crossing and when I heard them approach I stopped dead — if I had carried on they would have hit me.
'I was in shock and was shaking. I'm glad someone else saw it.
'If I had taken their registration numbers I would have gone to the police but being so shocked at the time I didn't look.
'These kids on bikes ought to take a lot more care.
'Old people can't get across the roads quickly.'
Sylvia said she was quite shaken after the incident and hoped that drivers would take more caution when passing pedestrians or people on mobility scooters in the future.
