TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake bowling Club?s first match of the week was Sunday?s six rink mixed triples home game against Liskeard Bowling Club. The match ended with a one shot, 98-97, defeat for Tavistock, after the Liskeard team won three rinks and drew another. Tavistock skip Norman Paramor and his crew of Vic Stacey and Shirley Blackburn won 16-8, while skip Henny Bawden and her team of George Blackburn and Marlene Paramor won 23-13. Skip Ron Cooper and his team of Walter Meek and Wendy Bloomer drew their game 18-18. Tavistock?s losing skips were Betty Browse (16-17) Malcolm Bloomer (16-23) and Der Saunders (8-20). Tavistock men?s County Trophy team travelled to Beacon Park, Plymouth, for a match with the Civil Service Salaried Association. The match ended in a narrow 78-79 defeat for Tavistock with skip Malcolm Bloomer and squad of George Blackburn, David Perry and Walter Meek having the only winning rink (20-11). Skips Clive Jago (14-18) Roy Northam (23-24) and Norman Paramor (21-26) all tasted defeat. The ladies? section faced Bradworthy in the Interclub competition and ended the match 48-40 victors, after winning both rinks played. Skips Yvonne Meneer and squad of Sue Silcox, Shirley Blackburn and Betty Browse won 22-18, while skip Jill Lacayo led her crew of Marlene Paramor, Henny Bawden and Ann Brown to a 26-22 victory. The ladies now progress into the next round of the competition. Thursday saw both men?s and ladies? teams in action. The men?s team travelled to Plymouth Central Park to face New Plymouth in a County Trophy match, which they lost (56-99) with skip Mike Allen and team of Norman Paramor, Vic Stacey and Brian Davis Tavistock?s only winning rink (25-23). The ladies? home match saw them facing two rinks from Yelverton, in a ?friendly? which ended as a 46-30 victory for the Tavistock ladies, after they won both rinks. Skip Marion Allen and her team of Jenny Aldridge, Val Southern and Betty Browse won 22-16, while skip Jill Lacayo led her crew of Shirley Blackburn, Anne Browne and Marlene Paramor to a 24-14 victory. Saturday saw a Tavistock mixed team entertain Totnes, for a six rink match which Tavistock won 127-95, winning five of the six rinks played. Skip Jill Lacayo and team of Mike Silcox, Albert Townsend and Harvey Leach won 26-15, while skip Roy Northam and crew of Sue Silcox, Charlie Cummings and Gordon Northey won 35-8. Skip Der Saunders ably assisted by Val Southern, Tom Percival and Jenny Aldridge, won 18-17, and skip Norman Paramor and team of Vic Stacey, Marlene Paramor and Joan Northey won 21-12. Skip Marion Allen led her team of Barry Chappell, Walter Meek and Brian Ellicott to a 27-20 victory but skip Ernie Piper saw his squad of Catriona Meek, Diana Smirles and Geoff Cork lose 10-23 after winning only seven of the 21 ends played.
