THOMAS the tank engine pulled carriages called Annie and Claribel, but the Tamar Valley has its own carriage which needs a name that reflects the area.

The Tamar Valley Marketing project is asking for the help of people who live in the area to pick a suitable name for the Wessex Trains railway carriage.

The carriage, featuring scenes from the Tamar Valley, will be running on railway lines in the South West and Wales from the summer onwards, as part of a scheme to promote the area for visitors.

?We are very excited about the railway carriage,? said project co-ordinator Bob Barrett. ?Images of the Tamar Valley will be seen all around the region, and it will be an excellent way of spreading information about our beautiful area and encouraging people to visit.

?It helps to promote green tourism because people will think about using the train and the Tamar Valley line to get here.?

Send your suggested names to Tamar Valley Marketing, at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8DQ by the end of March. If your name is chosen for the carriage you will be invited to the official launch party and train trip on the Tamar Valley line in May.
