IS there really any incentive for lower paid employees to carry on working?
I am employed by a nationwide company in Tavistock and recently received a yearly wage increase of £182 per annum for a 35 hour week. I am told by my firm that they are matching government inflation guidelines.
Of my £182 increase I pay £42 tax and if this year?s council tax for my band D home rises to £140 per annum I am left with nothing at all.
Having been in full time employment for over 40 years perhaps it is time to put my feet up and sign on for benefits or apply for a job at West Devon Borough Council and strike if I don?t think my pay rise is high enough.
