A CELEBRATORY evening will mark the launch of both the first CD and the website of MusicBox ? a self-help community music development project based in Tavistock.

MusicBox aims to raise awareness of and to help de-stigmatise mental ill health within the community.

It achieves this by creating an atmosphere that enables people from all walks of life to participate in making music together. It also supports regional events that promote the awareness of mental health issues.

MusicBox provides a weekly ?drop-in? facility which is free and open to everyone who would like to make music with others in an informal and supportive environment. Music courses and tuition are also organised for such things as African drumming, guitar and bodhran. Participants can either bring their own instruments or borrow from the equipment that MusicBox can provide.

The CD ?Abbey Rise? consists of 10 tracks and some 15 people have been involved in the recording by either writing songs, performing them or assisting in various ways in its overall production.

All the songs are original and in the main reflect the individual?s experiences and range from blues to contemporary folk.

The celebration of the launch of the CD will take place at the Ordulph Arms, Tavistock on Friday, April 2 at 8pm.

Some of the artists will be performing. The proceedings will open with a presentation by Sally Foxhall, non-executive chairperson South Hams/West Devon Primary Care Trust. There will be a dance performance led by Paula Kovacs followed by the MusicBox artists, and the popular locally based band Jarca will round off the evening.

Everyone is welcome to attend and support this very worthwhile cause. Admission charge is £2.50 ? refundable on the purchase of a CD which will be on sale at the event.
