A MUSICAL North Tawton couple who both recovered from serious illness this year have held a concert to raise funds for the wards where they were treated. Peter and Gillian Cripps both had operations at Wonford Hospital in Exeter early this year. The concert they organised at the town?s church on Saturday evening raised £700. Mr Cripps said: ?It?s only our way of saying thank you.? Peter plays the cornet in Crediton Town Band and Gillian sings in the acclaimed ladies? barber shop style choir, River City Chorus. They both performed with their groups at the concert. Mr Cripps thanked the band and the chorus for giving their services for free at the event, and said it was a ?superb evening.? ?There was also a prize draw with terrific donations from the local business population,? Mr Cripps said. Following the two performances, concert-goers went back to Peter and Gillian?s home for drinks and sandwiches. Peter and Gillian were back in church the following day, this time to renew their wedding vows for their 25th wedding anniversary. The couple have also planned a holiday in America to celebrate. Mr Cripps said his wife was now much better after fighting a rare type of cancer. ?She looks absolutely fantastic,? he said. Peter was treated on Exe Ward and Gillian on Dart Ward, and nurses from those wards were invited to the concert.
