AN exciting music workshop day is planned for Exeter Cathedral on Saturday October 6. Taking place every two years, the day features leading national and local presenters in workshops covering a huge variety of music and worship topics. This year, National Youth Choir Director Mike Brewer will be leading three choral sessions for singers of all ages. London Jazz Professor Scott Stroman will offer Jazz and Gospel workshops. Other workshops include Celtic styles, Music for Prayer, and Worship and Culture issues with Dr Pete Ward from London University. Mike will also be leading a workshop and master class at Exeter School on Friday evening October 5 at 7.30pm, specifically for young people and their choir directors. Scott will be directing his own jazz setting of the eucharist at 9.45am in the cathedral with the cathedral choir on Sunday October 7. Of special interest to teenagers, Gavin Tyte, who runs one of three international Beatboxing music sites, will lead workshops in the Music Day but will also appear at Nightchurch in the cathedral between 9pm and 12am on Friday October 5.
