SOUNDS of jazz and blues will be coming from the streets, bars and halls of Calstock at the end of this month as the village presents its second autumn music festival.

It will be music to the ears of the community who supported last year's inaugural jazz and blues festival with great gusto. From October 25 to 27 there will be 29 events with an eclectic mix of local, national and international musicians plus various talks and workshops.

Star guests include the Jacquie Dankworth Trio, the Jean Toussaint Quartet and the Matthew Halsall Quintet. Local jazz and blues performers include Gareth Hedges, Julian Piper, Jeff Horsey, Elaine Davis, the Bad Knees Blues Band, Freshly Squeezed, the Organisation and Just Friends.

A youth jazz band and boys' choir from Callington Community College will perform in the village hall, Callington Gospel Choir will sing in St Andrew's Church on Sunday morning, followed in the afternoon by a gypsy swing trio, Swingology, and cream tea.

Louise Parker pays tribute to Billie Holliday, there is a talk on the blues, poetry and jazz and a late night showing of the iconic film, Jazz on a Summer's Day. Callington Town Band and open mic busking will be on the village green.

Workshops include a wonderful hour for children experiencing jazz for the first time at Jazz Kids in the hall on Saturday morning. Those who like singing can try the Big Jazz Sing In at Calstock Primary School on Saturday afternoon.

Jivers can join the Lindy Hoppers' jive workshop in the hall on Sunday afternoon with a chance to practice their skills to Jazzacadabra in the evening. Musicians should not miss the great sax player, Jean Toussaint, who is doing a workshop introducing instrumentalists to jazz in the Chapel Arts Centre on Sunday afternoon.

This is a community festival and every venue in the village is involved. It is open to everyone and has a mixture of ticketed and free performances.
