PEOPLE in Tavistock 'pulled out all the stops' to help three young New Zealanders from Kelly College raise several thousand pounds for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

The Quake, Rattle and Roll charity show, organised by owner of the Bedford Hotel Philip Davies and his grandchildren Julia, Charles and Ginny Howard from Christchurch, impressively raised more than £3,500 for the Red Cross NZ Earthquake Appeal.

More than 160 people packed in the Bedford Hotel to enjoy the eclectic evening of music from South West folk group Professor Johnson, the St Eustachius Singers, Stare's Repertoire, Mr E and many others as well as an auction and cake sale.

Philip Davies said: 'It was a brilliant evening. We are very pleased with the amount we raised for such an impromptu event.'

Jane Waters, group sales and marketing manager at the Bedford Hotel, said: 'We had more people come along than we imagined. Tavistock really pulled out all the stops — everyone was really supportive. All the acts were amazing and the raffle was really good.'
