PREPARATIONS are well in hand at Okehampton?s Museum of Dartmoor Life, as staff and volunteers get organised for the visit of the Duke of Kent next Wednesday. The duke arrives at the museum at 11.50am, when he will listen to a presentation about the museum and its collection, before touring the premises. Curator Maurie Webber said a lot of hard work had gone into organising the museum, subject of a huge refurbishment last year, in preparation for the royal visit. ?I think you want to make sure everything goes smoothly ? and actually, the visit has given us the opportunity to complete a few jobs which we hadn?t quite got around to at the end of the refurbishment,? said Maurie. The museum will be closed during the morning of the visit, on Wednesday July 13, re-opening at 2pm. The tea room and information centre will be open as usual on the day. In addition to the museum tour, the duke is officially opening Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton, and taking a tour of Fishleigh Estate at Hatherleigh.
