MURPHY, an Irish Draught Cross thoroughbred, is getting into shape for his latest charity ride — and this time he and several of his friends will be making the journey from Little Bridge House, the Children's Hospice in North Devon to the Little Harbour, the new hospice in St Austell.
As gentlemen of a certain age, Murphy, and his rider Michael Bickell, prefer not to reveal the exact number of years they have between them, but will agree that they have been together for some time.
Michael, who lives at Lifton, said: 'We may be two old-timers but we still enjoy a new challenge and organising this ride to help raise money for the Precious Lives Appeal and the new Children's Hospice will help a great cause and get us both into shape.'
Murphy, who is known to the back up crew as the 'Lager Lout' is no stranger to charity work and has even ridden up the Mall following the Household Cavalry.
This ride will not be quite so glamorous but he and Michael should still cut a dash as will the riders who join them.
If you would like to join Murphy and Michael or sponsor their challenge you can contact him on 01566 783305 or 07831 494676.
