THE team behind one of the biggest quiz nights ever staged in Tavistock are at it again, all to raise money for wounded servicemen this weekend.

Hallam Riggs, Hannah Rowlands and Richard Wright organised a multimedia quiz of the year in the Ordulph Arms and Terrace Restaurant at the end of 2011 to raise money for teenager Alex Phipps, a sufferer of Emanuel Syndrome.

Around 140 people attended the quiz, and their efforts raised around £1,000 towards the appeal to raise £14,000 to go to a new wheelchair for Alex.

The trio are now organising a multimedia mega quiz on Sunday January 13, this time to raise money for BLESMA — the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association. The charity has been chosen by the pub landlord Andy Coad, as the Ordulph and Terrace will again host the event.

Organiser Hannah Rowlands said: 'After the success of last year's quiz, we were asked to organise this quiz to raise money for BLESMA.

'We had screens and a projector thanks to Richard's technical know-how, and things went very well.

'We are hoping to get as many people in as possible for this quiz, and raise as much as we can for such a worthwhile charity.

'Work commitments meant we had to move the quiz from December into January, but we hope people are still in the generous festive spirit and we can raise as much as possible.'

Landlord Andy Coad said: 'BLESMA is a very worthwhile charity, and all the servicemen and women are heroes. There should be more public recognition for servicemen and ex-military personnel. Hopefully, we can do our small bit for them on Sunday.'

Entry costs £2 per person with teams of up to six people. On the night there will be a raffle and hot food.

Advanced booking is recommended, as space will be limited, although teams will be accepted on the night if possible.

Organisers are looking for more raffle prizes. To book in advance, or if you have a raffle prize you can donate, email [email protected]">[email protected] or call 01822 615048.
