Carlsberg South West peninsula division one
Bovey Tracey 0
Tavistock AFC 0
TAVISTOCK AFC certainly learned their lesson from last week, when they were slow starters and conceded early goals.
In this game they really started at a high pace and tempo. The influential Dave Hallett returned from injury and had a fine game, controlling the midfield play. Although the game remained goalless both sides had their chances to win this entertaining match.
The Lambs had much the better of the first half, in the opening ten minutes both Jamie Ahearn and Dan Pethick forced fine saves from Bovey goal keeper Nicky Moyse to prevent the visitors taking the lead.
The Lambs continued to have a large share of possession in the 29th minute Dan Pethick put Johnny Wyatt free but his shot flashed wide of the target. Shortly afterwards a Paul Quinn free kick found Jamie Ahearn but his header was pushed around the post for a corner.
The Lambs dominated possession in the first half, forcing 11 corner kicks compared to the home sides two.
The home side certainly put in a better performance in the second half, but it was the Lambs that came closest to opening the scoring when in the 60th minute Hallett found Wyatt on the right flank; he cut inside his full back and released a fierce left foot shot which was brilliantly saved by Moyse.
In the last 20 minutes after making some substitution Bovey came more into the game, and in the 76th minute a cross from Liam Jones saw Lee Pascoe's diving header superbly kept out by Lambs' keeper Andy Meeds.
It was now end to end with both sides pushing for a winner; both Dan Pethick and John Wyatt went close before Andy Meeds was called to make an outstanding point blank stop from a close range volley from Ellis Laight.
It was the Lambs that thought they had won the match when in the final minute Matt David saw his powerful header beat keeper Moyse and looked destined to fined the net only to see defender Ben Head acrobatically clear the ball from under the bar for another corner kick.
This was a much improved performance by Tavistock on which the team must learn from. The build up play was really good and with a better selection of the final pass in the attacking third, would have surely ensured victory.
