Chairman's cup final
Okehampton U13s 0
Axminster U13s 1
AN excited Argyle (pictured right) took on Axminster at St James' Park, home to Exeter City, in front of a decent crowd who were in good voice!
Okehampton made a positive start and continued to press Axminster back. Okehampton's attacking play forced a corner but Axminster were able to break quickly and score with Argyle having men committed forward. Argyle continued to battle and dominate throughout the rest of the first half but never really created any scoring chances.
The second half saw them start strongly, having practically all the possession. Axminster were playing deep in their own half as Okehampton continued to control the game but they were starting to regret not taking their chances in front of goal.
As time began to ebb away Okehampton's bad luck continued as Taylor's shot struck the crossbar. When Okehampton proceeded to miss a couple of easy goalscoring opportunities, the chance of winning the match they had dominated so convincingly, began to slip away. Axminster had created no chances, not even getting the ball into Argyle's penalty area throughout the second half.
A raucous crowd were cheering Okehampton on as the match reached a tense and thrilling conclusion.
Argyle were defeated, but had played their socks off and were disappointed to lose such a one-sided game.
