FOR 35 years I lived and worked in Okehampton, the last 18 of those years spent behind the counter of GTI Print and Stationery in St James Street. Unfortunately, due to a rather nasty illness and deteriorating health I had to retire and have moved to Wales.
I would very much like to thank all those who supported me, and hope they will continue to support my successors. Over the years many customers became friends. The kind thoughts expressed through cards, letters and telephone calls during my stay in hospital was touching.
It was with not a little sadness that I set off up the M5 and across the Severn Bridge.
Abergavenny is much like Okehampton in as much as if you can't see the hills then it's raining and if you can see them it's going to rain.
My time in Okehampton was, for the main, both enjoyable and well spent. I hope my new home will be as rewarding. There is much I shall miss but much to look forward to.
Thank you again, all those I've met and got to know during my time in Okey.
